Cape Town Concert Series: 2016 (Season 2)

The Cape Town Concert Series, one of South Africa’s leading chamber music presenters, begins the second season of 2016 with top local and international performers.

On Saturday 20 August, pianist Luis Magalhães accompanies American violinist Madeline Adkins. Hailed as “deliciously exuberant” by the Baltimore Sun, she has established herself as equally at home in the spheres of solo performance, chamber music, and orchestral playing.

On Saturday 17 September, pianist Elna van der Merwe will accompany Chinese clarinetist Junnan Sun. He obtained a BMus Hons from the University of Pretoria under the tutelage of Lizet Smith. He continued his studies at the Royal College of Music (RCM) in London, obtaining a Masters of Performance (specialising in orchestral studies) with distinction.

On Saturday 22 October, Russian pianist Konstantin Scherbakov is the soloist. He was the winner of the first Rachmaninov Competition in 1983 and, since 1998, has been professor at the Zurich University of the Arts. He is particularly known for his interpretations of Tchaikovsky and Beethoven, and this recital will feature an all-Beethoven programme taken from his latest CD ‘Erioca’.

On Saturday 12 November, British pianists David Nettle and Richard Markham are the soloists. Within four years of their initial collaboration, their success had taken them to as many continents. Concert, festival, radio and TV appearances are the core of their performance schedule today and, to date, they have performed in 35 countries.
