Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra: Winter Symphony Season 2016

The Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra’s Winter Symphony Season includes three symphony concerts at Cape Town City Hall.

The season begins on Thursday 16 June with conductor Bernhard Gueller leading the orchestra in Shaun Crawford’s Overture and Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 5. Peter Martens is the soloist in Dvořák’s Cello Concerto.

On Thursday 23 June, conductor Daniel Boico takes over and leads the orchestra in Saint-Saëns’s Symphony No. 3 (“Organ Symphony”) and Revelation, a new showpiece by Christo Jankowitz, made possible by a grant from the SAMRO Foundation/Concerts SA. François du Toit is the soloist in Schumann’s Piano Concerto.

On Thursday 30 June, the season ends with Boico leading the orchestra in Ravel’s Alborada del Gracioso and Rachmaninov’s Symphonnic Dances. Rachel Lee Priday is the soloist in Prokofiev’s Violin Concerto No. 1.

On Saturday 2 July, at the Artscape Opera House, conductor Kamal Khan will lead the orchestra as they make history by hosting the finals of the prestigious 35th International Hans Gabor Belvedere Singing Competition, to be held outside Europe for the first time.
